ARTIST OF THE WEEK: LORD VANGER “TRAIN”
Train, the second single from Lord Vanger’s upcoming album LEAP was penned on a high-speed train between Barcelona and Madrid. As the darkening sky turns the windmills and rustic houses into silhouettes flashing by, the train becomes a metaphor for life, with all the passengers hurtling towards their destination in the dark with little control over their destinies. But instead of feeling lost and fearful, the song’s narrator passes the time by making music in his “crazy” head. With that choice, the train ride takes on a whole new meaning and he is overcome with an overwhelming sense of joy at being alive. The magical video was created over several months by graphic artist Gustav Balderdash and his team, Drawmore.

AD OF THE WEEK: NAT’L LOTTERY “CHRISTMAS LOVE STORY
Directed by Oscar-winner Tom Hooper (King’s Speech), the ad tells of a chance encounter between two young people who meet on a train and exchange a phone number on the back of a lottery ticket. Taking its inspiration from the romantic blockbuster, Love Actually, there is jeopardy and tension but only in the mildest Hollywood way. The phone number he scribbles onto the ticket and throws out of the train window onto the wet platform has a smudge so she cannot read it. I won’t spoil the story, but the whole ad really works. It feels like Christmas but also like a classic love story. Nice work from Adam&Eve/DDB.
EMINEM’S ‘8 MILE’ SOUNDTRACK GOES 6X PLATINUM
As the film celebrates its 20th anniversary.
Eminem‘s 8 Mile soundtrack is officially 6x platinum.
According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the album has now sold over six million units in the United States since its release in October 2002 and went 4x platinum in January 2003 (the date of it going 5x platinum was not listed). The news arrives just in time for the 20th anniversary of 8 Mile, which saw Eminem celebrate the milestone by releasing an expanded edition of the soundtrack album and a Mom’s Spaghetti pop-up in New York City.
The rapper was recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by longtime friend and collaborator Dr. Dre, who revealed that many people discouraged him from signing the young Missouri-born rapper because they didn’t see nor believe in the vision. “Each of us was what the other one needed — and I was willing to bet my entire career on it,” he said.
